How Does Hydro Jetting Work?

hydro-jetting-plumbing-clogsEvery plumbing system encounters clogs now and again. It’s an unfortunate reality of owning a home. While common, however, clogs should usually be dealt with by a professional plumber, who has the training and equipment to do the job far more effectively than any store-bought snake or cleanser.

Nowhere is that more evidence than with the use of hydro jetting: one of the safest and most efficient ways of cleaning your pipes and reason enough to call a trained professional with every clog, no matter how seemingly mild it is. How does hydro jetting work and why is it so efficient? Read on for the answers.

The Power of Water

Hydro jetting is essentially just a hose fitted onto the affected drain, which fires high-pressure pulses of water down the drain in an effort to scour the drains clean. The pulses hit the clog again and again, gradually blasting it away until your pipes are completely clean. It requires professional training to perform the operation properly; the water is under a high amount of pressure and can cause damage without the proper licensing and insurance. But in exchange, the issue is dealt with more thoroughly and comprehensively than any other method.

With cleansers or snakes, you’re usually left with residue from the clog when you’re done. That means that the clog will reform again quickly if you’re not careful: even if the water appears to be flowing down the drain properly. This is one of the big reasons why you should avoid store-bought solutions. Cleansers, for instance, are designed to deal with a wide variety of clogs, which means they only imperfectly address all of them. They’ll free up enough of it to let water pass through, but ultimately leave a lot more in place.

Hydro jetting does away with such half measures. The pulses are steady and powerful, ensuring that even the most stubborn clog gets broken up and washed away. Not only does it deal with the clog that caused the problem to begin with, but it will scour the entire pipe clean: handling any clogs that may be forming elsewhere in the pipe as well as the original clog. That delivers good value for the money, as well as ensuring that you won’t have to deal with a whole new clog a few weeks or months down the line.

Better yet, the process is completely harmless and environmentally friendly. Your pipes are accustomed to dealing with water, after all, and while it’s fired at high pressure down the length of the pipe, the pulses ensure that your pipes undergo no undue stress. And because it’s water, there’s no toxins or poisons to pollute the environment: just plain old H20.
