Consider a Ductless HVAC System

Spring is the time to take stock of one’s air conditioning options and plan for any replacement that may be needed. It’s also a good time to consider alternative options and look into solutions to your household air conditioning that you might not have considered before. Most of us are accustomed to traditional centralized air conditioners, which cool the air in a single location and distribute it via a series of ducts.

They’re an inexpensive and efficient system but they’re not right for every home. If you’re considering a new air conditioning system this summer – or if your home can’t support centralized air and you’re looking for another option, consider a ductless HVAC system.

What Does “Ductless” Mean?

A ductless system means just what the title says: a heating and air conditioning option for your home that doesn’t rely on ducts. Instead, it entails multiple smaller units installed at key locations throughout your home, each charged with heating or cooling a single section (often by room, but not always). Each unit can be adjusted independently of the other units, and in most cases a central control system can adjust them all from one location if you need it to.

What are the Benefits of a Ductless System?

Ductless systems often cost more to install than centralized systems, since each unit must be set up individually (requiring more time and effort). The benefits, however, are considerable and can play out over many years. They boil down to two basic advantages.

  1. The first is fairly luxurious: the ability to set different temperatures in different parts of the house. If you’re cooking in the kitchen, you probably want the air conditioner turned up a little higher than normal to offset the heat from the oven of stove-top. But what if another family member is playing video games in the living room and doesn’t want to freeze while you cook? Ductless systems let both family members have what they need, avoiding squabbles and helping you make the most out of your home comfort options.
  2. By applying that principle, you can help your home in a far more practical way: turning off the cool air in parts of the home you aren’t using while leaving it running in parts of the home you are. That can save you a huge amount of money on monthly bills – especially if you have a larger home that you struggle to adequately cool – and over time will allow your system to last longer and work harder without suffering from breakdowns.

That comes on top of the simple fact that you don’t need ducts to operate the system, which can be invaluable to older homes built before the advent of air conditioning or similar homes that lack the capacity for centralized air.

Only a trained technician can determine whether ductless HVAC systems are right for you, and now is the perfect time to ask. Here in Frisco, TX call on Hutchins Plumbing & Air Conditioning for high-quality ductless air conditioning installation.
